This Post Is Not About Steroids

And yet, it is about Major League Baseball. Shocking.

It's a puzzle I recently heard about the country's second-favorite pastime (I maintain basketball is number one) in it's most basic and elemental form: the rulebook. Here goes:

There are five ways for a baseball player to reach first base without a baseball ever making contact with his/her bat. Name them.

The winner gets something shiny.

I like baseball & my family has been around it for long enough, I think I will take a crack at this..

a baseball player can reach first base without a baseball ever making contact with his/her bat by:
1. being walked
2. catcher dropped the third strike
3. batter is hit by a pitch (which they must make an effort to get out of the way)
4. the catcher (or umpire..i think) interferes
5. being substituted in as a pinch runner
6. I also think you can reach first base on certain errors.. I'm not sure though.

This is a long shot for me, but it's all I can come up with. You know my family has been involved in baseball for 763527 years, & I was a scorekeeper for the LBBA. haha.. I think I have done okay for a girl..

I'll be looking forward to the real answers. :)

"It's all I can come up with." What a humble statement on the subject of baseball trivia from a baseball aficionado such as yourself. Yep, you're 5 out of 5.

Not totally sure about errors, either. I had thought the batter was awarded first after a balk, but was told later that only the runners advance.

Yeah I can't really remember all of the rules for the stuff that doesn't come up that often. This little challenge was easier than I thought it would be. When I first read it, I thought it would be hard, but once I started to think, the answers were pretty easy to come up with.

Just no football trivia mmk!
